Strengthening Teaching Through Neuroscience at Bihani Kiran School

Bihani Kiran School has successfully completed a month-long Continuous Professional Development (CPD) program on the course “Know Your Child’s Brain” conducted by Vygotsky Nepal. This training was designed to strengthen teachers’ understanding of how a child’s brain develops, learns, reacts, and forms behavior. The program offered a structured and research-informed approach to supporting children in more meaningful and effective ways.

Throughout the sessions, the teaching team engaged in a sequence of learning, application, and reflection. The program focused on helping teachers connect theory with classroom practice. Each week introduced essential topics that enhanced teachers’ ability to interpret behavior through a neurological perspective and respond with clarity and compassion.

The learning journey covered a wide range of themes such as
• Understanding the brain behind behavior
• Recognizing the role of emotional regulation in learning
• Strengthening connection before attempting correction
• Supporting co-regulation for children who struggle to manage big emotions
• Viewing challenging behaviors as forms of communication rather than defiance

Teachers participated actively in discussions, case-based activities, and collaborative reflections. Many shared meaningful changes they observed in their daily interactions with students. Small adjustments in tone, posture, and language created noticeable improvements in children’s engagement and emotional safety. These experiences highlighted the value of integrating brain-based strategies into everyday teaching.

The CPD program also emphasized the importance of reflective practice. Teachers were encouraged to examine their responses, understand their triggers, and build awareness around how the adult nervous system influences the child’s ability to feel safe and learn effectively. This approach equipped the school team with practical strategies that align with both developmental science and nurturing classroom environments.

We extend sincere appreciation to the Bihani Kiran School team for their consistency, openness, and dedication throughout the training. Their commitment to deepening their understanding of child development made this professional development experience enriching and impactful.

As the program concludes, Bihani Kiran School moves forward with a renewed perspective. The insights gained from the course will continue to guide the team in creating classrooms that are inclusive, emotionally attuned, and developmentally supportive. The completion of this month-long journey marks an important step in the school’s ongoing effort to promote a child-centered approach grounded in neuroscience and compassionate teaching.
