One-Day Training on ''Physical and Psychological Environment & Behavioural Management'' with Saathi Teachers Program by Helambu Education Livelihood Program (HELP)

Vygotsky Child-Parent Consulting and Learning Center conducted a One-Day Training on “Physical and Psychological Environment & Behavioural Management” as part of the Saathi Teachers Program by Helambu Education and Livelihood Program (HELP).

The training focused on helping teachers and educators understand how the physical and psychological classroom environment can influence children's behaviour, participation, emotional well-being, and learning experiences.

The session also explored practical and positive approaches to behavioural management, enabling teachers to respond to children's needs with greater awareness, consistency, and empathy.

Creating Supportive Learning Environments

Children's learning is influenced not only by what happens during lessons but also by the environment in which learning takes place.

A classroom that feels physically safe, emotionally supportive, predictable, and inclusive can help children participate more confidently and develop positive relationships with teachers and peers.

The training encouraged teachers to consider how factors such as classroom organization, communication, relationships, routines, expectations, and adult responses can influence children's behaviour and learning.

Understanding the Psychological Environment

“What is the child communicating through this behaviour?”

Behavioural Management Through Positive Approaches

The session explored positive approaches to managing behaviour rather than relying only on punishment or correction.

Teachers discussed practical strategies such as:

• Setting clear and consistent expectations

• Establishing predictable classroom routines

• Using positive reinforcement appropriately

• Communicating expectations clearly

• Redirecting challenging behaviour

• Using appropriate consequences

• Building positive teacher-child relationships

Teachers were encouraged to consider aspects such as classroom layout, accessibility, learning materials, seating arrangements, organization, safety, and opportunities for movement and interaction when creating learning environments.

The training emphasized that the physical environment, psychological environment, teacher behaviour, and children's behaviour are interconnected.
