Vygotsky Child-Parent Consulting and Learning Center successfully conducted a 5-Day Online Course on “Know Your Child’s Brain – Learn the Neurological Way to Deal with Children and Their Behaviour.”
The five-day learning programme was designed to help parents, teachers, caregivers, and early childhood professionals understand children's developing brains, emotions, behaviour, and developmental needs.
The course was facilitated by Ms. Priyanka Chaguthi, Parenting Coach, Early Years Educator, Teacher Trainer, and Founder of Vygotsky Nepal.
Children's brains continue to develop throughout childhood, and their ability to manage emotions, communicate their needs, make decisions, and regulate behaviour develops gradually.
The course encouraged participants to understand children's behaviour through the lens of brain development, emotions, relationships, and developmental needs rather than viewing challenging behaviour only as something that needs to be corrected.
Inspired by brain-based approaches to parenting and child development, the course provided participants with practical insights that can be applied in everyday interactions with children.
Across the five-day programme, participants explored important topics related to children's brain development and behaviour, including:
Understanding the developing brain
Children's brain development during early years
The connection between the brain, emotions, and behaviour
Understanding children's emotional responses
Why children may struggle with self-regulation
Supporting children during emotional overwhelm
Understanding the needs behind challenging behaviour
Developing children's emotional awareness
Supporting emotional regulation and self-regulation
Strengthening parent-child and teacher-child relationships
Positive and responsive approaches to children's behaviour
Applying brain-based strategies in everyday situations
A key focus of the course was encouraging adults to look beyond a child's immediate behaviour and consider what the child may be experiencing emotionally and developmentally.
Young children are still developing the neurological and emotional skills required to manage frustration, disappointment, fear, anger, excitement, and other strong emotions.
When adults understand this developmental process, they can provide appropriate support, guidance, boundaries, and opportunities for children to gradually develop their own regulation skills.
The course connected concepts of child development and brain science with everyday parenting and teaching situations.
Participants had opportunities to reflect on real-life experiences and explore how they could use more responsive approaches when communicating with and guiding children.
The programme was particularly relevant for:
Parents and parents-to-be
Teachers and early childhood educators
Preschool teachers
Caregivers
School leaders
Child development professionals
Anyone interested in children's brain development and behaviour
Understanding a child's developing brain can help adults build more meaningful relationships with children.
Through connection, communication, emotional support, appropriate boundaries, and responsive guidance, parents and educators can create environments where children feel safe, understood, and supported.
The course emphasized that understanding children's behaviour is an important step toward understanding their needs and supporting their healthy development.
